I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. (Psalm 9:1)
. .
|
Like so many passages in the Bible, Psalm 9 is counterintuitive. David begins with an exclamation of praise, affirming his desire and commitment to wholly praise God. Conventional thinking might be something along the lines of, "I bet things were going great for David!" Not exactly. Check out verse 13 . . . "O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death." The truth of the matter is that things couldn't have been worse . . . and yet we find David wholly heartedly committed to praising God.
The life insight the Bible gives us here is crucial - especially when times are tough let the first words out of your mouth be ones of praise. Begin with praise, rather than the problem. The effect will be to change our attitude, focus us on God, and bring faith back into our thinking and even our emotions. In other words, we begin to change and so often that is the first step towards circumstances beginning to change (check out 2 Chronicles 20 and Jehoshaphat for more on that!).
So . . . make it your plan to praise first rather than to complain first. How about focusing on praise rather than the problem? How about training yourself to be a person like David - with a heart like David - so that even if life looks like verse 13 (see above), the confession of your lips begins with, "I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart."
Your Pastor,
Nate Atwood

Sundays at 9:30 AM in Celebration
Is your marriage important to you? Of course it is! And, even more to the point, your marriage matters intensely to God. During 30 years of marriage, the Lord has taught Pastor Nate and his wife Helen much about what works and doesn't work, and they want to help strengthen your marriage.
Maybe you've been married for five years, 15 years ... or 50 years. Perhaps you're not married but plan to be. We invite you to this 8-week marriage class, which meets on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in KPC's Celebration Wing. As a part of our regular Children's Ministry, there's a special Sunday school class available for children of parents taking this course. You can register in class.
We hope you'll join other like-minded couples and discover how to have a happy marriage!
Starting Sunday, January 22
Parents, please take note:
Merge will be meeting ONLY during the 11:00 a.m. gathering starting January 22 with our very own Family Ministries Director, Adam Whitescarver, teaching. The 9:00 a.m. Merge will be cancelled until further notice.
For more information email Family Ministries.

Just before Christmas 2011, the region of Northern Mindanao, Philippines was hit by a tropical storm that caused a devastating flash flood, taking the lives of more than 1400 people and leaving half a million people displaced, homeless, and destitute. Many of those rescued managed to escape with only the clothes on their backs.
KPC will be collecting donations through HIS 1040, a Christian advocacy network that serves indigenous Christian workers in the 1040 window* through humanitarian relief. Donations collected by KPC will be shipped by HIS 1040 to effected areas. Needed items include canned goods/non-perishables and clothing. (Please do not include pork products, as we are targeting Muslim communities.) Donations may be dropped off at the Welcome Center on Sundays or at the lobby reception desk during the week. Please bring your items to KPC by Feb 1.

At KPC, we work hard to protect our children! That's why we offer Safeguarding God's Children, an abuse awareness and prevention program that provides participants with the information they need to protect the children they know and care for in their personal lives and the ministries in which they serve.
Our next Safeguarding God's Children training workshop is Saturday, February 4 from 8:30-12:30 in the Fellowship Hall. A continental breakfast is included, and childcare is available.
This workshop is required for all KPC volunteer children's workers, but is also free and open to anyone in the congregation interested in learning how to protect our little ones from sexual predators.
To register, reserve materials, and request child care, email family no later than Sunday, January 29.
